Demo of the Week: "Demo" by Failed Humanity

The demo that I will be reviewing this week is by the band Failed Humanity. Their album is entitled "Demo" and it contains three songs:

1. "It Never Sleeps"
2. "Death Witch"
3. "Decay Renews Existence"

Overall, this demo jumps full force into the genre of metal. The lead guitar is clean and distinct, while the rhythm guitar has that constant underlying grit behind the songs. The drums are always hard hitting and keep perfect rhythm. Following the drums is the bass guitar with a lot of catchy, jazzy riffs. I really like the bass guitar riff choices as they add a unique breakdown piece in a couple of the songs.

The lead singer has vocals that are distorted and a bit unrecognizable, but that is definitely a stylistic choice. His voice is deep and raspy which works perfectly with the rest of the instruments. You can understand most of the lyrics, however, without any lyric sheets anywhere on the web, I can't review them as I don't know what is being said for a fact.

Now, more specifically, I really like the bass in "It Never Sleeps." It is absolutely superb. This is probably my favorite song off the demo.

I recommend that if you like metal and want to support a local NC band to check out this demo! Please tell me your thoughts in the comments below!

Demo of the Week: "It's Never Done" by Hyperloops!

The band Hyperloops is an alternative rock band from Wilmington, NC. They have such a chill and cool vibe. They formed in 2018 and thus have quite a few years of experience under their belt while still being a relatively new band. Some of their favorite bands are Blink-182, The Doors, Cream, etc. These influences can definitely be heard in their new demo "It's Never Done." This song is currently available on YouTube to listen.

Hyperloops's song "It's Never Done" is especially pertinent to how 2020 has changed our lives. This song tells a story of how you must always continue forward in life even if it's not how you wanted it to go. The song has such a wonderful calming vibe. The guitar in the song is tasteful, but still gets its moment in the spotlight toward the end of the song. It is a great song to turn on and listen to any time!

I highly recommend keeping an eye on this band. They definitely have the makings of a huge success!

Raleigh NC: Charlie Paso

Charlie Paso is a local band from Raleigh, NC. They were formed in March 2016. They have such a unique sound and style. The band's Facebook page describes their sound as "surf-wop tweedly donk garage pop n porridge" or "sweet tunes for sweet people."

I had the pleasure of getting to see them live at an NCSU event and the energy coming off the band was awesome. I had never heard them prior, but in that instant it felt as if I had listened to them all along. They had such an energy that the whole crowd seemed enthralled by them.

I highly encourage all of you to check out their music on Spotify and on their other socials!

Site Update

Hello,

I've decided to change this site from focusing on Eastern NC bands to all local bands in North Carolina. I feel that the music scene is NC is still small enough that a website can help to represent it as opposed to focusing on a small part of NC. The email for this site is still easternnorthcarolinamusic@gmail.com tho as I can't change that.

Happy New Year!
